Mabel Juniper 7 months

Mabel!
You are seven months old! How time does fly, let me tell you. And life has been so busy. I feel a little sad that the time to write has not been very much. I can recap it now, though.
You got your first tooth at 4 months. So much earlier than Evelyn and so early in general. It was one of the bottom center ones and it was quickly followed by the second bottom central incisor, then two of your top lateral incisors and then a bottom lateral incisor. Currently you're working on the top two central incisors, but they're being a real pain and taking their sweet time coming down. You're mildly frustrated at this. When they do come down, you'll probably stop making that Cabbage Patch Kid face and I will be so sad. It's my favorite face of yours.

You've been crawling for a few weeks now and are pretty proficient at it, too. Belly up off the floor, gaining speed and you're getting into everything now. You've started pulling up just a bit but you can't seem to get yourself down, so there have been quite a few bumps on the head/face. No bruises yet, thankfully.
Your red hair is slowly but surely filling in and you have only 2 of your birth hairs left, sticking straight up about an inch and a half longer than the rest. They're hard to see but I giggle every time I catch sight of them.
You started solids just shy of 6 months. You were a little meh about them at first and would spit the food out a lot, so I worried I was starting too soon. Things changed a lot since Evelyn was a baby and they suggest starting so much earlier now at 4 months! After a few tries though, you've seemed to get the hang of it and will really go to town on some food. Last night you ate mashed sweet potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and chicken with caramelized onion cheddar cheese on it. You really love tomatoes! It's cute to see you grab my hand and stuff the food into your mouth. You can feed yourself too, though.

So far your eyes are still blue. Your Granny says that red hair and blue eyes are a rare combination and you'll be lucky to keep that. I might be a little bitter that neither you nor Evelyn inherited our green eyes, though, haha.
You have sort of started clapping. It might be the predecessor to clapping. You swing your arms together in front of you in an excited way. It's quite adorable.
You're very talkative, jabbering away at five-thirty in the morning when you should be sleeping.
Speaking of sleep, you had been an amazing sleeper for a long time! But when you started teething, it kind of mucked everything up. And then at six months when we moved you to your crib in Evelyn's room, you started waking much more often. Last night for the first time you slept through til five-thirty in the morning without waking up to eat. I woke up at five to check on you and as my friend Angela said, I "broke the seal" and so you woke up a short time later. You still sleep pretty well, though, considering you are in a different room. And you nap in your crib too! You are a belly sleeper, which caused me a bit of anxiety at first but you keep your head turned to one side and that makes me feel better.
You still take a pacifier, but its not a vice. I think you're starting to think about giving it up, though, since you don't always want it. Of course that's after I went and bought 4 of the special notched NICU pacis that you seem to prefer.

Nursing has been going pretty well, but you're still a lazy eater at the breast and sometimes I worry if you're getting enough, though your diapers prove you are. You're not quite to gymnurstics but you're definitely entering the distracted phase and if you aren't tugging on my necklace you're twisting your head around to look at anything interesting. That often means you expose me in public, but oh well!
With Evelyn I had a pretty good grasp of her schedule, but you throw me for a loop a lot. I've tried to follow the whole "awake for 2 hours, sleep, awake for 3 hours, sleep, awake for 4 hours, bed" routine but sometimes you just don't want to go down that soon. So sleep is a bit of a mystery right now. If we're home I can pretty much rely on you to take a nap after a couple hours of wake time, though.
I would say you spend about 75% of your time crawling around the floor, looking for all the tiny bits, cords and things you shouldn't be playing with. You went from hating tummy time to being all about it! You really like the crinkly "paper" toys. I think they're just cellophane covered in fabric though. Where Evelyn liked the dog guitar, you prefer the cat piano.
We recently tried you out in the pool. The first time was a no go. You seemed to hate every second of it. Maybe the water was too cold for your liking. You didn't seem to mind it as much the second time but I think you just wont be the fish that Evie is. That's okay, the sun on your peaches and cream skin worries me so much, I'm content to sit in the shade with you.

Seven months has really flown by and I am finding it difficult to contain my sadness that my last little baby is getting so big. You are such a joy to have in my life and I love you so so much.
Love, Mommy
